For more information on GTT, please visit .Role Summary: Prepare and execute plans to optimize the cost and capacity of GTT’s core network including leased backbone services and internal device trunking. Job Scope/Supervision:The Core Network Planner will work cooperatively with other company departments as required, including Engineering, Carrier Relations, Operations, Finance, Business Analysis, Data Integrity.Duties and Responsibilities:Collaborate closely with Engineering to design, deliver, and execute optimized cost and capacity plans for leased wavelengths, dark fiber, and submarine cable solutions used in backbone and metro networks. Collaborate closely with Engineering to assist with peering capacity planning and upgrade implementations.Analyze data from a variety of sources to manage peering, backbone and metro cost, capacity, and diversity. Develop effective reporting tools and methodologies necessary to monitor peering, backbone, metro, and internal trunk capacity as well as effectively drive stakeholder decision-making.Work in partnership with Supplier Management and directly with vendors to obtain the best pricing, billing, and service level availability.Investigate related linking and variance exception reporting and implement corrective actions.Required Experience/Qualifications:5+ years’ experience in telecommunications overseeing backbone cost and capacity.Strong working knowledge of backbone providers, backbone types (waves and dark fiber) and backbone price points and the ability to apply that knowledge to a variety of situations around the world. Prior people management experience preferred.Strong organizational and Project Management skills (concepts, ability to multitask), ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, listen attentively, apply appropriate grammar, and integrate large volumes of information from multiple sources.Has strong analytical, negotiation, and inter-personal skills along with the ability to work cross-functionally across various geographic regions ultimately to identify, build, and manage ongoing relationships with telecommunications carriers.Meets deadlines, works independently, accountable, maintains focus, punctual.Ability to work and show positive results in a fast-paced environment.Strong Microsoft Excel, pivot tables, report generation.Core Competencies Business Performance Management: Knowledge of technologies, techniques, and practices for the use of business intelligence; ability to monitor and adjust business processes (internal and cross-organizational) in near real-time.Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.Coaching Others: Knowledge of coaching and mentoring concepts and methods; ability to encourage, motivate, and guide individuals in learning and improving effectiveness.Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.Producing Results: Understanding of the criticality of getting things done despite current circumstances and the ability to utilize assigned resources and leverage back-channel resources (individuals or teams) to achieve or exceed planned outcomes.Universal CompetenciesContinuous Improvement: Knowledge of transformation initiatives to drive fundamental changes, enhance responsiveness and efficiency to core business practices.
